A Semantic Investigation of Non-Verbal Communication in the Qura'nic Discourse

Abstract

Non-verbal communication refers to movements when human beings communicate with each other without speech or writing.It is important in communication as face-to-face conversation if not overshadows it. Non-verbal communication can be described generally by 1)body signals ,such as  our gestures, our facial expressions, the way we look at another, our behavior and our actions, and 2) how we live , such as our standard of living, our clothes, our use of money and our honesty.However, more research is necessary to confirm this point. This paper is an attempt to discusses the research in the field of non-verbal signals and analyses and characterize them and  explores how they manifest themselves in the Holy Qura'n.The paper shows that the Quranic discourse is abundant with non-verbal information like eye , hand , voice, gestures, body movements , etc. which are useful to understand the user's inclination exactly. The Qura'n is full of nonverbal communication. There are many examples of how people behaved, their attitudes towards God and other people, their priorities and their ambitions. The study also shows that the nonverbal information is considered important  in the Qura'nic discourse ,therefore Almighty God enriches the verbal message and make the message more persuasive and understandable for the addressees.
