The application of operations research in the field of educational planning in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the reality of using operations research in the field of educational planning in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The study used the descriptive – survey methodology, and the questionnaire as a tool to collect data. The findings showed that the degree of using operations research and computer assistance in the field of educational planning was moderate, with regard to knowledge and using operations research, while the sources of knowledge, personal access through books and periodicals came first, followed by knowledge through work. The most predictive methods used are judgement and experience. The most important applications used were simulation style. While the most common difficulties that limit the application are the scarcity of specialists, and lack of senior management support for its use. The study recommended a number of recommendations, among them the following: -        The importance of using operations research tools in the field of educational planning and the training of employees. - Training of employees in the use of operations research applications. - Establishing consultative and training support centers for operations research and quantitative styles. - Providing the latest software related to the use of the applications of operations research tools in educational planning.
