Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the effect of using formative tests on the achievement of basic seventh grade female students in mathematics. To achieve the purpose of the study, a purposive sample was selected. It consisted of (74) female students distributed into two classrooms of basic seventh grade in Bab Al-Wad secondary school of the fourth Amman directorate. An achievement test was built in two units of mathematics: proportionality, right bases and roots. Validity and reliability of the tools were assured. The findings of the study showed significant differences at (α = 0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in the achievement in mathematics, in favor of the experimental group, in which the formative tests were used. In light of the findings of the study the researchers recommended decision makers in the development of mathematics education the following: Directing mathematics teachers and encourage them to use short formative tests. Including the mathematics curriculum guides and books models of the formative evaluation tools for teachers to benefit from them in teaching. Organizing training courses for mathematics teachers about using formative tests and conducting formative evaluation in educational process. Encouraging researchers to conduct further studies on the use of various forms of formative evaluation and in other study stages.
