Abstract

Aim: Cancer survivors are on the rise and improving their quality of life is important. This study aimed to examine and compare the factors that affect the quality of life of cancer survivors according to the Sasang constitution type.Material and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was employed. Participants were a total of 254 adults aged 19 years or older who visited the outpatient clinic for follow-up management after the end of their cancer treatment (Soyang: n = 110; Taeyin: n = 108; and Soyin as a supplemental data: n = 36).Results: The factor that was found to have the most influence on quality of life among cancer survivors with a Soyang constitution type (explanatory power: 56%) was perceived health state (β = 0.41), followed by three or more treatment types (β = 0.37), depression (β = -0.33), colon/rectal cancer (β = 0.26), treatment period (β = -0.19), and self-efficacy (β = 0.19). For cancer survivors with a Taeyin constitution type (explanatory power: 64%), such factor was depression (β = -0.60), followed by perceived health state (β = 0.34) and other cancer type (β = 0.14). For those with a Soyin constitution type (explanatory power: 47%), depression (β = -0.70) was the only influencing factor. Conclusion: This study provided preliminary evidence that there are differences in the factors influencing quality of life according to the Sasang constitution type. In nursing practice, nurses need to pay attention to personalized care according to the cancer survivor’s constitution.
