Using Databases available in Center of Excellence of the Jordanian Universities: Analytical Study (2017 – 2019)

Abstract

The study aimed to identify: the most using databases universities, and topics most used by researchers, the years in which databases mostly used and the search forms carried out by researchers in databases (FULL TEXT, ABSTRACT, SMART LINK) as well as to identify forms of information sources. The most important results reached by the study: the most using databases university was Yarmouk University for 2017 and 2018 with a percentage of 34.955% and 49.422 respectively. But, in 2019 University of Jordan occupied the first place in using databases with a percentage of 33.951%. The Study found that Academic Search was the most used Database in 2017 while in 2018 and 2019 Medline Complete and Art & Architecture were the most used databases respectively. Moreover, it was found that there are databases that were not used at all by the universities as well as there were some databases that were used but a little. The English databases were more commonly used than Arabic databases. The study recommended promoting Arabic content and providing databases in the Arabic language that include topics that meet the desires of research in universities and scientific research centers. As well as the study recommends the universities to cancel their participation in non-used databases and to provide a subscription to serve the requirements of researchers and the specializations presented therein, enhancing the process of using the databases by researchers in less using databases universities.
