Abstract

Aim: Water plays a significant role in maintaining ecosystem health. A Survey of water physicochemical factors helps to understand the ecosystem's health and all organisms living in it. Materials and methods: We sampled water from January to December 2015 in the Anzali lagoon in this study. All physicochemical parameters were sampled and determined according to standard methods. Results: The result showed a clear spatial separation among sites in the Anzali lagoon. Site 2 and 4 were more similar together, but site 1 and 3 was separated. The results showed that the pollution level in Site 3 was the highest. The level of pollution in sites 2 and 4 was more similar together, and the level of pollution in site 1 was the lowest. Conclusion: This study showed that pollution was different in all parts of the Anzali lagoon. Because wastewaters discharged from industrial and agricultural areas are more concentrated in the eastern part of the Anzali lagoon, the eastern stations of the lagoon showed high pollution compared to the central and western sites. As a result, the water of the Anzali lagoon has a different quality.
