Analysis of disaster risks on agricultural industries in Pakistan under stress of Drought and Flood disasters

Abstract

Background: Agriculture of Pakistan facing serious problems due to disasters which results loss in economy. Sudden weather unwanted events have high impact on agricultural production and agricultural industry.The presents study investigated the impact of flood and drought disasters on agricultural industries in Pakistan. Methodology: The data has been taken from agricultural experts such agriculture research officers, agriculture farm managers, agriculture university professor and agriculture loan officers by face to face interview, the audeo recorded interviews has been conducted of duration 25 to 30 minutes each interview. The NVivo 20 software has been used for various qualitative analysis techniques such as Word Tag Clouds, Word Tree, and Tree map and Cluster Analysis. Results: The study findings shows that the floods and drought causing agricultural productivity loss and complete damage of crops industry, livestock industry, fisheries and poultry industry. The major causes of flood and improper irrigation system and less availability of dames and water reservoirs. The major disasters of flood and Drought in Pakistan are caused by improper layout of irrigation system and mismanagement of policies. Conclusion: Study concluded that the floods and drought causing agricultural productivity loss and completed damage of crops industry, livestock industry, fisheries and poultry industry. Study suggested to have proper layout of irrigation with cemented water courses and availability of small dames for access water saving would be effective for disaster risk reduction.
