Quality Evaluation of Precipitation Time Series in Ca Mau Province, Vietnam
Abstract
Evaluating the homogeneity of precipitation time-series is essential for the long-term study of climatic problems. In practice, factors such as the relocation of observation stations, changes in instrumentation, and the inaccuracy of instruments can cause non-homogeneity in these. The main objective of this work, therefore, was to examine the homogeneity of precipitation time-series in the Ca Mau Peninsula of Vietnam in the period 1975–2018. Firstly, the homogeneity of monthly precipitation data-series at the Ca Mau gauge station, which is collected from the Ca Mau hydrometeorological forecast center, was evaluated using Pettitt’s test and the standard normal homogeneity test (SNHT) at a significance level of 0.05. Secondly, the precipitation data-series were used to determine a precipitation intensity-duration-frequency curve for the study area. The results show that, at a significance level of 0.05 in both the Pettitt’s and SNHT tests, the observed precipitation data-series are homogeneous.
