Health-promoting Behavior and Quality of Life for in Elderly People in South Korea

Abstract
Background: The purpose of this study was to identify the difference in health-promoting behavior and the quality of life between men and women in South Korea. Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The participants were 188 elders (age ≥ 65 years) who lived in three cities in South Korea. The study questionnaire was designed to measure general characteristics, health-promoting behavior, and quality of life. Results: This study confirmed that female senior citizens were better at health-promoting behavior (t = -2.915, p = 0.004) than male senior citizens and felt they had a higher quality of life (t = -2.111, p = 0.037). Conclusion: This study confirmed that the health-promoting behavior and quality of life of the elderly were higher than the statistics provided by the nation and that elderly women were better at health-promoting behavior and had a higher quality of life than elderly men.
