Factors Affecting Treatment Outcomes of Inpatients with Mood and Affective Disorders
Abstract
Aim: This study was undertaken to evaluate the factors affecting the treatment outcomes of inpatients with mood and affective disorders. Materials and Methods: Data were selected from the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury Survey (KNHDIIS) database, which was created by the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC). Study subjects included 5,331 inpatients with mood and affective disorders. Analysis of data was conducted by frequency, chi-squared test, and logistic regression using SPSS 22.0. Results: Statistically significant factors included ages (30-64 years, OR= 1.854, CI= 1.313 to 2.616, above 65 years, OR= 1.486, CI= 1.095 to 2.017), types of insurance (medical aid, OR= 0.372, CI= 0.200 to 0.693, others, OR= 0.347, CI= 0.167 to 0.720), length of stay (8-179 days, OR= 7.567, CI= 2.727 to 20.998), hospital beds (300-499 beds, OR= 0.484, CI= 0.302 to 0.775), and hospital district (metropolitan city, OR= 0.614, CI= 0.464 to 0.810). Conclusion: The findings suggest that the government should intervene with preventive and early management efforts such as lifecycle programs and counseling services for patients with psychiatric disorders. Trial registration: Trial registration is not necessary as this study was performed during the period 2006 to 2013, utilizing the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury Survey provided by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC, http://injury.cdc.go.kr)
