Questions to Lexicography in Middle Ages Azerbaijan Linguistics
Abstract
The main aim of the current study is to present Azerbaijan people, as one of the most ancient and progressive peoples of the East who raised worldwide famous scientists who were busy with all fields of Science, Arts, Philosophy, Medicine. Besides, one of the major goals is to show profound historical roots of up-to-date Azerbaijani lexicography based on firm traditions. Main methods used in the article are comparative-historical method, research method and descriptive method. It is possible to come across some information in a lot of sources that Azerbaijan literature and language are forced out by strong influence of Persia yet in VI century. It has been noted that as a result of long-lasting wars between the Byzantine state and the Iranians, the weakening of Iranian shahs facilitated the Sassanids to be banished from Azerbaijan. However, in early VII century, the assault of the Arabians to Azerbaijan caused the Azerbaijan language and literature to be influenced by the second stronger Arabic language which was about to quit Persian affect. After accepting the Islamic religion, the Arabic language became the language of science, palace, Moslem ecclesiastical school (mollakhana), madrasa, while Persian became the language of literature and poetry assembly. As a result, it is indispensable to date back to history in order to perceive modern Azerbaijani lexicography which has two traditions based on ancient East and Western traditions via Russian lexicography. In a conclusion, the emergence of Middle ages Azerbaijan lexicography on the basis of Eastern traditions, its wide progress, having colorful peculiarities, passing through improvement stages, as well as, its playing a great role in the development of the Arabic and Persian lexicography are proved in the article.
